Post by The Coat Thu Oct 20, 2016 8:58 pm

The Coat perches atop the tallest spire of the largest cathedral in the Dark City. The nobodies of this city vary greatly,  coming from a wide diversity of places and times. Many of them still feel the call of their cultures and religions. In this strange new world they now find themselves, is it so strange that they wish to recreate familiar places that give them a sense of safety and stability? Religious sites like this cathedral have sprung up all over the city, though none nearly as large or grand.
The Coat too feels an attraction to the cathedral, though it has nothing to do with the life he previously led (Kage was never very reverential). The Coat has its hood aimed up at the night sky and the emptiness within seems to be gazing at the wispy clouds floating across the stars. Religious sites like the cathedral are closer to the other side than anywhere else. They are the closest The Coat will ever come.
They also make the perfect spots to receive messages from the other side. A piece of paper drifts down from the clouds and the Coat reaches out a sleeve to halt its descent. As always, there is a single name written on the page. Doctor Jefosx Reithe. As soon as the Coat reads the name, the paper dissolves into dust. The Coat has a moment to stiffen up in shock uopn realizing the name is that of a nobody, but then the blessing of Death descends upon him. An image of his target appears in his mind and all other thoughts fade from his mind. The Organization coat he wears darkens into a black that seems to suck at the edges of the human mind. Within that coat, a form condenses from shadows, solidifying into a body void of any features. The form reaches forward and from the air draws forth a white scythe.
This new version of The Coat  drops silently to the Dark City streets. He knows exactly where his target is located and begins moving toward the center of the city. He doesn't walk or even glide, but rather flows. He doesn't try to hide his presence or even his intent. Those who look will always see the approach of Death.

Post by Fira Sun Oct 30, 2016 7:01 pm

Fira is on her way home. She is feeling restless as she hasn’t had any work to do today. Lately she has been helping the nobodies with their construction/destruction work. She finds it calming to knock things down and it helps release her pent up energy. It also helps pay rent. She sighs, knowing that when she gets back to her tiny room, she will be unable to sleep.
As she approaches an intersection, a dark figure crosses her path. No. Dark doesn’t properly describe the figure. It is pitch black, like it’s made of liquid night. As it moves along it seems to suck in the light from the streetlamps it passes beneath. And no matter how she squints at it, she can discern no real features. Fira feels a shiver creep up her spine. But she immediately forgets about it when she sees what the form is carrying.
“Oh my gosh! Where did you get that beautiful weapon?” She runs after the figure and begins jumping all around it, asking questions and getting as close as she can to the scythe without actually touching it. “Why’s it white? Who made it? Can I touch it? What’s it made out of? Does it have any special properties? Can I hold it? Is it heavy? Can you wield it well? Can I have it?”She looks pleadingly up at where she assumes the shape’s face is. She can now discern that there are two shades of black in the figure. The lighter one seems to have the form of a man, though she still can’t see any of his features. The darker black seems to be a coat that the man is wearing. She looks down at her own coat. The two seem very similar. “Hey, are you a nobody?”

The Coat does not acknowledge Fira when she approaches him. He does not react at all, simply continuing to move forward on his chosen path. In his current state of mind she does not even exist. That is, until she get too close to the scythe.
Without breaking pace, the black figure reaches down and grasps Fira by the shoulder with an icy hand. Unperturbed by the girl's weight, he lifts her up to eye level, though all that stares back at Fira is a smooth black mask. A deep voice that can be felt down to the soles of her feet reverberates in Fira's mind.
"If you taint this holy weapon with your filthy touch, you shall become better acquainted with it then you ever hoped to be." So saying, the Coat tosses Fira high into the air over his shoulder. He does not look to see what becomes with her, but continues on. His target is only three blocks away.

Fira feels shocked as the dark figure casually picks  her up and tosses her aside. But that shock and any fear she felt upon gazing into the creature's featureless face quickly turn into anger. All she did was ask questions.  This attack on her was completely  unprovoked.
Fira twists in midair so her feet are beneath  her. She lands back on the street with a heavy thud, the asphalt cracking around her from the impact. She reaches into her own coat and pulls out her weapon handle. She did learn one thing from the creature's  attack; it has a solid body. And if it has a solid body she can hit it. A black material forms on the weapon handle and builds itself into Fira's own bigger and heavier version of a scythe. She draws the blade back behind her and plants her feet. "I'll do more than taint your stupid holy weapon. I'll shatter the damn thing to pieces!" She launches herself at the black figure, slashing her scythe horizontally to cut the thing in two.

The Coat is now close enough that he can see his target's soul through the walls of the building. It is a black soul; withered and decayed. It no longer resembles anything human in any way and is therefore unfit to continue wearing the body of one.
With his attention locked onto his target, the Coat fails to notice Fira's attack. A great force slams into his right side, and while the blade fails to pierce the actual coat, the sheer power of the attack knocks the Coat completely off his feet and into the nearest building, creating a sizable crater in the brick work.
Surprised, it takes a moment for the Coat to pick himself up and climb back onto the street, scanning for his assailant. Spotting Fira, the Coat raises the hand not holding the scythe, palm out towards her. "You are interfering." He unleashes a blast of force from his palm in a 20x20ft square. He is not allowed to kill her, but he uses enough power to blow her over the buildings and hopefully far, far away, even with her usually heavy body. Still, she has proved herself enough of a threat that this time the Coat keeps his focus on her instead of turning it back towards his target. In a distant, disconnected corner of his mind, he notes with some satisfaction that her soul is strong, vibrant, and colorful, as any human soul should be.

Post by Fira Wed Nov 09, 2016 2:39 pm

Fira smiles in satisfaction as she lands a solid blow and smashes the dark figure into a nearby building.  "That'll  teach you not to underestimate me." Even so, when the dust settles a little, she winces at the sight of the wrecked  building, knowing how much work it'll take to fix. "I guess that's more work for me."
Fira returns her attention to the creature,  which is rising to its feet. She thought such a solid hit would do more than just stun him. 'I shouldn't have held back. Who knows what this faceless thing is.' She grips her scythe with both hands and lowers herself into a defensive stance. She expects the figure to attack her with its own scythe and is caught off guard when it simply  raises a hand and fires some sort of force blast at her. Fira braces herself a moment before the blast hits. She is rocketed backward and high into the air at considerable speed.
Just as Fira is  about to clear the first building, she lashes out with her scythe, digging the blade into the building's front and slowing her ascent. Unfortunately, her scythe runs out of building to dig into and she continues to rise for another few feet, past the top of the building. She lands awkwardly atop the building and gasps in the breath that was knocked out of her. She definitely was not expecting that little flight.
Fira cautiously approaches the edge of the roof and peers down. From up here she can barely distinguish the form of the creature from the shadows cast by the streetlamps. 'I was looking for something to do. Time to smoosh a bug.' She backs away from the edge to get a running start. In her hands, the scythe morphs into a giant mallet. Lifting the mallet over her head, she takes off running and jumps off the building. In the air she flips a few times to build momentum and brings the mallet down with the force of a small comet, right on top of the black form. "Brush this off!"

Merely a Servant Empty Re: Merely a Servant

Post by The Coat Fri Nov 11, 2016 9:25 pm

The Coat watches silently as Fira descends upon him. She is force to be reckoned with for sure. Even in his current form, if he just stood there and took her attack, there is high probability that he would be injured. But without her previous element of surprise, Fira is no threat. The Coat moves leisurely out of the way of what he calculates the impact radius will be. A moment later the projectile that is Fira completely obliterates the spot where he was previously standing.
Not giving her time to recover, The Coat again raises his hand and this time launches a swirling black sphere the size of a basketball at Fira. Rather than exploding or blowing her away, when the sphere comes in contact with Fira it dissolves into her body. The Coat turns away, satisfied that he can now continue to peruse his quarry without being interrupted by Fira again. She will be too busy fighting her inner demons to confront him. The sphere will trap her in her own mind and draw out her fears, forcing her to face them inside the hallucination.
The Coat turns away and approaches the grungy, three-story building that he senses his target in. He makes a slight movement with the scythe held in his hand and after a white flash the entire front of the building falls away, revealing the inside. The second and third floors are empty except for some rusty bed frames. But the first floor contains some rudimentary furniture, including an open refrigerator which an unkempt man is peering into. He stands frozen in shock, staring at where a wall used to be. He is a scrawny man, but has managed to retain a potbelly. His skin is unhealthy pallor of white and his bulging eyes are bloodshot. He appears to be on the older side and his white hair sticks up in patches atop his balding head. He is wearing only a dirty white t-shirt and pair of boxers, each covered in bright red stains.
Jefosx Reithe, you have been found unworthy to remain among the living. No trace of humanity remains within you and your body serves merely to mask the darkness. Therefore, bid farewell to your mortal form and prepare your decrepit soul for eternal damnation. I hereby condemn you to Death.” The Coat raises the scythe and begins moving towards the man. Without a sound, the man bolts to a door in the back of the room and hurls himself down some steps to the building’s basement. The Coat continues forward at the same pace, knowing there is no escape from Death.

Merely a Servant Empty Re: Merely a Servant

Post by Fira Fri Nov 18, 2016 8:25 pm

Fira is suddenly engulfed in darkness. Though she strains her senses, she can neither see nor hear anything. She raises her hammer, ready to attack anything that comes at her from the blackness. The darkness slowly disperses and Fira is surprised to find herself no longer in the dark city but in a large room that is very familiar to her, though there are no signs of the battle that occurred the last time she was here. She turns in a circle, taking in the throne room of her deceased brother's fortress.
She completes her spin and spots someone at the opposite side of the room who definitely wasn't there before. She raises her hammer again and then gasps as she recognizes her brother. "I-Ivan, is that you?" She tries to move towards him but finds  she can't move. Her hammer has suddenly vanished and she is completely  immobile and unable to speak. All she can do is watch as the scene unfoldso in front of her.
Her other brother suddenly appears (she doesn't know from where). Kage is holding a long sword and immediately launches himself at Ivan. Ivan draws his own blade and the two begin a fierce duel. Fira is still merely a spectator and can only watch helplessly as the fight reaches its inevitable  conclusion. Kage parries Ivan's sword one last time and then raps him on the wrist with the flat of his own blade. Ivan's sword chatters to the floor and without waiting an instant, Kage runs his blade completely through his brother's chest. Kage lets go of the sword and Ivan clutches at the protruding hilt, taking a few teetering steps back. He turns and looks at Fira, silently begging her help. He then collapses onto his face, amid a quickly spreading pool of his own blood.
Kage calmly steps over his brother's body. Still frozen, Fira watches in horror as he walks toward her. However, rather than attacking her, he walks past her and stops just beyond the edge of her peripheral vision. He speaks in a low voice, exactly the same as the one she remembers. "But what if I was telling the truth?" Everything once again fades into darkness.
It feels like an eternity before Fira can even think properly. She feels unsure, hopeless, and afraid. Everything is still dark and she keeps her hands pressed to the ground to maintain any sense of orientation. Gradually, she remembers what was happening before she was engulfed in darkness. She remembers the strange figure firing a ball of shadows at her. He caused this. Fira's negative emotions burn away under the heat of her anger. Without something to pummel, she focuses her blazing anger into the ground under her hands, instantly disintegrating it. The energy that flows into her rejuvenates her and she continues to break down the matter in her vicinity, eating away at the ground beneach her.
With a sudden flash, Fira finds herself back in the Dark City. She's at the bottom of a deep pit that she created when she destroyed the matter surrounding her. Hammer in hand, she quickly leaps out of the pit. Burning with anger, Fira frantically looks around for the person who caused her such termoil. It seems that much less time had passed in the real world than it had in her head. She quickly spots the dark figure inside a partially destroyed building, apparently chasing some poor nobody. Fuming with anger, Fira flexes her newly gained strenth by smashing the ground in front of her with her mallet, creating tremors, and causing a fissure to open beneath her enemy's feet. "First you attack me, then you mess with my head, and now you're destroying buildings and terrorizing citizens. I will anililate you!"

Post by The Coat Mon Dec 05, 2016 10:38 pm

The Coat cannot bother with Fira right now. He had already proclaimed divine judgement and is now so close to his goal. But when the floor begins to shake and crumble beneath him, the Coat's already pitch black mask of a face darkens even more. The collapsing floor will fall onto his quarry, likely killing it. The Coat can't have that. He must sever the soul from the body with the weapon in his hand.
The Coat raises the scythe slightly.  Given the current situation, he is willing to use some of its power. He taps the scythe gently against the crumbling floor. Immediately, all movement ceases. The shaking stops and the falling rubble freezes in midair. Even the clouds halt in their progression. Unfortunately, living beings are not affected, so the Coat must act quickly before Fira interferes once more. He stretches out a hand and with a small gesture rips up the entire floor, pulverizes it, and sends the dust hurtling into the sky.
With the floor gone, a horrific scene is revealed below. Strapped to scattered tables and benches are the mutilated bodies of both humans and animals. Some have been stitched together to form grotesque abominations. Some are still moving. Rusty surgeon's instruments are strewn about. Floating in an assortment of jars and tanks are organs and other body parts. In the middle of it all crouches the man. He stares upward at the floating figure of the Coat without any expression on his face. He created this. He feels nothing. He deserves to die.
The Coat floats to the floor and walks up to the man. The man makes no attempt to fight or flee or beg. The Coat raises the scythe above his head.
