The artificial sun brightens in the sky over the strangely quiet Dark City. The city has always been large and recently the numberless population has started to rise drastically, as if to try to fill the empty streets. It was becoming a true city, with lights and noise at every hour and a constant hustle and bustle that seemed to defy the day and night cycle Kane had created.
But now the swelling city sits silent. There is no movement in the streets. No lights flickering in the windows. No sound echoing down the concrete canyons. All is still. All is very, very still. The bodies in the streets are still. The bodies on the floors are still. The bodies in their beds are still. The numberless lay as if they had suddenly collapsed in the middle of what they were doing. The bodies have no injuries or marks on them. They are still, but not dead.
If an individual were to examine one of these bodies, they would be hard pressed to detect signs of life. Nobodies possess no hearts, and thus no pulse. These husks possess no pulse, no breath, and no brain activity. Hard to detect, but not completely impossible. They do not deteriorate or decay. Their cells still live. These shells are alive. Barely.
The Castle That Never Was is also unusually still, though not so much so as the rest of the city. While many, many bodies lay unresponsive in their rooms and sprawled throughout the corridors, there are still a few that have not left the realm of consciousness. Though they lack hearts, their bodies continue to move. To assess. To plan their next move in the face of this calamity.

I look down another corridor. Nothing but more bodies. I know they’re not dead. I can see it in their energies. That familiar pulse of yellowish green energy I can see in all living creatures. But something seems off (You know, besides everyone being unconscious on the floor (and the fact that we’re out of mustard).). While I can’t quite put my finger on it, I would swear something’s missing from the usual plethora of swirling colors that make up the energies of a creature.
I shrug and move towards the nearest nobody. This time I actually attempt to wake the guy up. I try the usual; slapping, shaking, loud noises, cold water to the face, drawing on said face with markers, CPR, defibrillation, taking his wallet, etc. None of it works. I stand up with a sigh and stash the wallet with all the others in my coat. This is getting kind of boring. I have at least 20 wallets in my pockets (none of which belong to me) and haven’t even broken a sweat yet. I walk the rest of the way down the corridor without even glancing at another deliciously lootable body. There’s no challenge in it (not that most people are a challenge for the Object Removal Specialist). There’s no one to stalk, outwit, and eventually taunt. “It sure is hard being the best.”
I begin making my way towards the center of the castle. I decide to check the Lounge first, then the Round Room and the Throne Room. I figure if anyone else is still awake, those are the most likely places for them to gather. And if not, there’s got to be someone in the Cafeteria. I start shouting as I walk, “HELLO! IS THERE ANYONE IN HERE WHO DOSEN’T WANT TO BE ROBBED? SPEAK NOW OR FOREVER LOSE YOUR STUFF!” I wonder if Fira and the Coat are caught up in this mess. I haven’t seen either in quite a while.

Nixena wakes to the low-light of the artificial sun glowing above the Dark City. She's accustomed to waking up early, to the sounds of some others bustling about and passing her room near the entrance of the castle. She pulls her hair up, hastily braiding it to keep her long hair from falling in her face. She stretches before whistling, a low tone that would normally be considered little more than an exhale. Ori perks up from her place at the edge of the bed, and Nix opens the blinds, ready to greet the day. What she's not prepared for is the bodies of numberless littering the city streets, visible from her bedroom.

"Ori, we're going. Now." She grabs her staff and her belt of throwing knives. She pushes her way through the castle, opening door after door in search of someone who isn't in the same barely-living state. Nearing the typically more-populated rooms within the castle, she hears another voice.

She can't suppress the laughter that bubbles up--almost a hysteric break because she has no fucking clue what is going on. There's so much relief in her face when she responds, "Touch my stuff and I'll sic Ori on you!" The white wolf growls in agreement.

Raising a hand in greeting, she asks, "Any idea what's going on? Because everyone's... unconscious?" She also shoots a message to her sister, knowing that the brunette rarely spends her time in the castle. "There's no way this is normal, even with all the insanity that happens here."

She racks her brain for any idea of why this would be happening, but can't come up with a single reason. As if sensing her worry, the wolf circles around the two Nobodies, keeping an eye out for any other people or possible enemies.

Another time, another number. It was another day "alive." I woke up like any other day; head resting on my hand with my elbow against the armrest. One eye at a time I witness the light begin to shine down through the window in the forward hallway. Not normally the morning person, nor one with much of a morning appetite, I decided some breakfast was in order. I jump off the high throne and onto the black marble floor creating a, louder than usual, echo. That was when I realized just how quiet it was. The sheer silence is what woke me to begin with. It was no common event. Regardless, I made my way to the cafe.

On arrival, everything seemed as it should, meals prepared with the occasional Nobodies resting from a heavy meal. Nothing out of the ordinary. I grab a waffle or two, some sausage, and some pancakes, slather some syrup of them and sit in the nearest chair from me. I was hungrier than usual.

As I began to consume my meal, the silence grew heavier and heavier to the point where you could hear your blood flow through your body.

I eat as much as I could and make my way to the roof of the castle. Again, nothing. Even the wind grew silent. It was incredibly unsettling. I decided to skip today's training. It was time to investigate.

Post by Enemy I Wed Jul 19, 2017 10:20 pm

A cloaked figure slowly paces around the circumference of a round room, his footsteps echoing off the bare walls in a manner many would consider menacing. Strangely, the room is illuminated only by torches, and the shadows cast by the room’s pillar like thrones writhe like ghostly apparitions on the room’s wall. The figure stops pacing and a Dark Portal appears before him. He enters the portal, making his way to a less agreeable area of the castle.
“And how is our guest this fine morning?” The figure drawls before picking up the captive’s holo-communicator from a nearby table. A sign indicating a new message illuminates the screen. “It appears the city is waking.” A sadistic smile appears, crossing his face to reveal white teeth. “I think we’ve given them enough time to stew.” Not expecting a response from his shadowy comrade in the far corner of the room, the cloaked figure continues without pause. “Time for a wake up call.”
In the Castle That Never Was, every holo-communicator suddenly beeps to announce an incoming message. The devices start playing the same video throughout the castle. First there is only darkness. Then the barely visible, lower half of a deathly pale face comes into focus. The mouth is twisted into a painfully large grin. “I hope you have all come to the understanding that your future rests in my hands.” A short bark of laughter. It’s impossible to determine if the voice, garbled as it is, is masculine or feminine. “If you think you can beat me, you’re welcome to try. Actually, I welcome it with open arms… Run, run, run, little nobodies. Find me! If you truly care about those foolish things that have no right to be alive, you will find me. Unfortunately, some of you may die along the way.” The voice pauses. “But, if you refuse to find me, one of your own will die for sure. I’m sure your leader actually cares,” the voice says sarcastically, “You have until noon.” The camera pans to an unconscious Clerxha, her body lit by a spotlight. The girl is bound with black manacles glowing with runes and is bleeding from a cut on her forehead. A shimmering barrier surrounds her. The video shakes as the person recording laughs. “Hurry. Time’s already running out.”
The video ends abruptly, and a set of coordinates scrolls across the screen followed by a brief line of text. The coordinates lead to the old cathedral in the city. The message reads, “Much more than eyes can be windows to the soul.”

The world portal comes to life, giving way for Aixus as he walks through it.

"I don't understand why you're so confused about this." He says aloud.

Hello? What do you even mean? How does he go from Muraxami to Hixari to Muraxami to Hoxama and then back to Hixari again?

    "I don't see a problem with it."

Dude, things like that don't just happen. I mean, nobody seems to be phased by this and it's weird.

    "It's really not that serious...."

WHAT??? Remember Bruxi? That guy had black skin or some shit, no he's really pale. If that was black paint, I'm pretty sure he was being racist...

    "Racist against Somebody's or Nobody's?"

*sigh* Forget it, we'll just ignore that Muraxami's skin is now red and that Bruxi my have been blackf-

The inner voice is cut off by the sound of Aixus' communicator going off. Upon watching the video, he takes a moment to process what just happened.

Well, this is more important....I guess...

"We have to get to the castle."

Really? The castle? That's unexpected of you.

Aixus opens up a corridor to the castle. "Not really." He says as he walks into the portal.

I smile as a familiar voice finally responds to my almost-threat. I turn toward the voice, feigning deep hurt. "You would force a child to attack its loving parent? That's messed up." I bury my hands in Ori's thick white fur as the wolf trots up. I give her a few good rubs and crouch down to whisper in her ear, "She's such a meany.  You could always come live with me. I've got pizzazz. And kibble." I straighten up and stick my tongue out at Nixena. "Besides why would I touch your stuff? It has cooties on it!"
Childish banter out of the way, I turn to her more serious questions. "It's definitely a mustard famine. You go find 50 ccs of deli mustard while I go find a way to dispose of all the honey m-" My profound medical diagnosis is cut short by the accursed beeping coming from my communicator that I can never figure out how to turn off.
By the end of the video, my previous humor is completely gone. "Bastard." As I reply the video in my head, my fists clench at my sides. I hate hostage situations such as this; one powerless person used to influence others. Even though it's Clerxha, who's far from powerless, I still want to hit something. "That's fucked up."I stare grimly at the coordinates on screen; they're familiar. "Hmm... That's the older section of the city. Right by where we got Ori." I glance up to see Nixena's expression, before hurriedly turning away. "Come on. Let's gather some allies. Those coordinates lead to the Cathedral." I begin purposefully striding down the corridor, quickly arriving at the Lounge, just a short distance away.

An amused smile appears on Nixena's face. "The fact that she'd attack you means it's a good thing there's no joint custody," she teases, watching as Ori's tail wags in a puppy-like fashion. Maybe she should hang out with him, the blonde muses. Nix also adds, with a fake-offended gasp, "And you've got cooties, not me." She's thankful for the brief levity from whatever this confusing situation is.

Gexka's mini-rant about mustard is cut off by their communicators ringing--she was about to comment how she owns a restaurant and there's more than that in the storage she has. The message comes from her sister's holo-com, but she scowls the second that it's not the bubbly brunette. There's no way in hell this can be good. As if sensing her agitation, the white wolf growls, fangs bared. She pats Ori's head absentmindedly, eyes fixated on the screen.

Her hands are clenched into fists as Cler appears onscreen. The black marble beneath her feet begins to break as her anger materializes. One of the few people she genuinely cares about has been taken. There's hell to pay for this. She inhales deeply, forcing her emotions to the side as best she can and looking at it from a detached and analytic perspective. They've got to have some magic inhibitor if she's unable to heal a wound like that while sleeping. And that place... where is that place?

She looks up as Gexka speaks. "That's an understatement," she replies, her voice low and threatening. She can feel a single tear sliding down her face, but she wipes it away. She's hearing his words, but there's only a shell-shocked expression on her face. Nixena registers the words Ori, cathedral, and allies, nodding in acknowledgment.

She raises a hand, about to open a portal to the old cathedral, when Ori nudges her forward. The action breaks her concentration, and she berates herself for nearly acting on impulse. She doesn't even know what's going on, what good would she be if she recklessly rushed in? Making a point to stay near Gexka and Ori--not really trusting herself in this moment--she follows towards the Lounge.

The morning is bright, and warm on my cheeks as I awake to the sound of quick, short beeps.  I roll over in fatigue stretching for my communicator.  "Geez, just once I'd like to be able to sleep until after 12, just on--" I'm cut off by a scene of a deadly, dark, menacing grin mocking, taunting, threatening.  "Who the hell does this guy think--" And then I stop, I clench my communicator wide-eyed in anger at what I see.

Cler... my Clerxha, shackled, chained like an animal, unconscious. A tear falls from my eye passing over the scar on my cheek.  I touch it instinctively.  Pain, trapped, darkness, chained,...."No, not today, not to Cler."  I immediately put on my suit, and strap Baby Girl on.  "Cogsy, Cler's in trouble. Grab some potions, and let's head to the Lounge and see if we can find others." The Moogle nods his head in acknowledgment ready with a pouch on its side.  We run out of the room as fast as we can heading towards the Lounge to find anybody to help.  Everyone must've seen that transmission...Oh, Cler. Please, please be okay.

On my way back into the castle, I received a sudden transmission from XVI. I kept at a rather quick pace as I watched what had happened on the screen, taking care to not miss a single detail.

Judging by the way they had spoken, this was a mass message not just intended for me. Still, this does not explain why things have been so quiet. Regardless, whoever was using XVI's communicator made no effort to hide their location as the coordinates followed soon after.

Whoever else received this message, I pray they haven't already headed to the location. I don't see this ending well without a reliable stratagem.

Until noon they say. Let's not waste any time then.

As my pace through the hall increased to a dash, lightning constructs separated from my body and headed to each direction I wasn't to cover more ground and find more people as I headed for the entrance.

The cloaked figure powers off the holo-communicator, still snickering quietly to himself. He tosses the device over his shoulder, but it never hits the ground; disintegrating into wisps of darkness in midair. He turns toward the shadowy figure in the corner intending to issue orders, and jumps a little upon finding his comrade within a few feet of him. “I still do not understand why you must taunt them. It is true that a few were able to resist my power, yet you told me to leave specific ones unharmed. And even now you lead them on. Why did we not simply crush the creatures with our full might? Or act in complete secrecy, them being none the wiser till it is too late? We have more than enough souls. You play a dangerous game.”
The cloaked figure snarls, “And you play a more dangerous one by questioning me.” He whirls around and begins stalking toward the doorway. He speaks angrily, yet in a quiet tone, almost as if he does not intend the shadowy figure to hear. “I will break them. I will make them tremble and despair. Those who defeated me do not deserve an easy death. They shall watch powerlessly as everything they love, everything they worked so hard for fades into darkness. I will have my revenge. And then, they too, will fade into darkness.” The cloaked figure stops at the doorway without turning to look back at the shadowy one. He speaks in a more normal voice. “Come, we must finish the preparations for the ritual. It would be impolite to not be ready to receive our guests.” With that, the cloaked figure disappears through the door way. A second after, the shadowy figure follows behind.

“Man, I’m so bored! When are these guys gonna show up? I think I might fall asleep.” Lounging on the lip of the large fountain in the middle of the courtyard in front of the cathedral, a young-looking man with blond, stuck up hair complains loudly. He absently strums his instrument while lazily kicking the water in the fountain with a booted foot.
“Hah! You’re just looking for an excuse to go take a nap,” A voice from the opposite side of the fountain snaps. “Even now, you’re still a worthless layabout! Why don’t you make yourself useful and come polish my boots?” The voice comes from a taller, slightly older man, who also has blonde hair, though his hangs down his back and frames his face.
The young man sits up with a scowl scrawled across his face. “Why don’t you come over here so I can polish the pavement with your face! It’ll probably be an improvement for both of you!”
The taller man takes a step toward the younger. “Why you insolent little-.”
“That’s enough, both of you!” A third voice interrupts; strong and deep. It comes from the deep recesses of the entrance to the cathedral. The upper body of the man standing there is hidden by shadows, but by the lower half of him alone, one can tell he is powerfully built, much more so than either of his companions. “We all have reason to be nervous. But that’s no reason to take out your frustration on each other. The upstarts more than deserve your combined ire. Remember the ones we were warned about and don’t jeopardize the mission! Got it?” Both the tall man and the young man pointedly turn away from each other with a loud, “Hmph!” The man in the shadows lets out a sigh.

Before entering the lounge, I take a peek back at Nixena. She's pale, obviously still angry and upset, but also with a spaced out look in her eyes. I grab her by the hand and pull her into the lounge, trying to focus her on what needs to be done. A quick look around the room turns up only more comatose bodies. I grind my teeth in frustration for a few seconds before pulling out my communicator. The time reads a little before 8 o’clock and I send a brief message to all the other member, hoping that some are still awake to read it. ‘Assault on Cathedral at 8:30.’
Even as I’m hitting the send button, someone else rushes in the lounge. I whirl around, my hand going to the hilt of one of my weapons, suspicious of a surprise attack. I don’t recognize the girl that just entered the lounge with some strange creature in tow, but I do remember seeing her around the castle once or twice. That, combined with the large weapon strapped to her back, and the angry look on her face that I’m sure matches my own, reassures me of her allegiances. I give her a terse nod. “We’ll get her back.”
I don’t let go of my weapon handle though, as a second later something else enters the room. It’s humanoid in form, but made out of crackling electricity. It begins gesturing urgently at the three of us, indicating that we should follow it. By now one of my daggers is in hand and I’m reaching for my other one. However, another look at the construct reveals an uncanny semblance to the leader, Kexan, in its build and features. I cock my head and take a step forward and the construct seems to take that as some form of acknowledgement. It whips around and bolts back the way it came, still motioning over its shoulder for us to follow it. Without waiting to see if my companions follow, I take off at a sprint after the electric golem. “Come on!”
The electric construct leads me by the most direct route to the entrance to the castle. There, I see Kexan, apparently waiting for the construct’s return. Without preamble, I run up to him. “Almost everyone is down for the count. So far, I’ve only met two others besides you who are still awake. We know who did this and where they are. We have limited time and manpower, so we should strike hard, fast, and soon.“

Nixena lets herself be guided into the lounge, grateful for something tethering her to the present. She stares blankly at the other seemingly lifeless nobodies on the floor of the lounge. This is the worst. Ori walks around, sniffing at the unmoving bodies and wrinkling her snout in apprehension. I hope there are more people able to fight. The blonde hovers behind Gexka, but she takes her eyes off of the resident thief’s message when she hears another person storming into the room.

She can’t help the bitterness in her voice as she grips the handle of her staff until her knuckles turn almost paper-white. “We’ll get her back.” She echoes him, before adding, “And we’ll kill that son of a bitch.” Nix doesn’t really know the purple-haired woman, but at least the fury on the woman’s face matches the rage that rushes through her own veins.

Taken aback by the electrical apparition, Nixena raises her staff and the black marble wall behind her resonates with the action, cracking into slivers that rise in the air behind her, pointing at it. A second later, she registers a familiarity of it, and she lowers the marble, instead dropping the nearly two-dozen shards into a small pouch on her waist. She’s still rooted until a voice pulls her out of the startled headspace, and she follows with the white wolf at her heels.

She stops for less than a minute in her room that’s by the entrance, and picks up a handful of healing potions that Cler had whipped up a few weeks earlier; “just in case,” she had said. Why the hell does she have to care so much?

The leader’s there when she nears the exit, and she looks to him in the hope that he’s got a plan of action for what’s going on. “Whoever this is,” Nixena says, her voice wavering despite her attempt to keep it monotone, “seems to know us. Or at least you.” A pause and a deep breath, an attempt to steel herself. “But out of all the fucking people in this entire city, why take Cler? She’s the nicest person and I don’t think anyone had—or has any reason to hate her.” She wants nothing more than to head straight over to the cathedral and figure out where this guy is keeping her sister.

“We’ve got a time limit. So, what’s the plan?” Her mind’s already rushing a mile a minute, trying to figure out where this guy would be. Instead of voicing her doubts, she just listens, hoping that others will appear soon as well.

Walking out of a bathroom relieved, my communicator goes off and projects a mysterious figure, but before he could start talking, I drop it  in shock as I realize there are a bunch of bodies all over the place.
    Well that's not good...
    The heckle happened here!
I check a body completely ignoring what is going on in the communicator and not knowing of the situation and new threat.
This person seems alive. They all seem alive, but no motion in them whatsoever.
What the hell is going on here?
I started to poke the body slowly, unsure of the consequence. So far, nothing.
We should probably head to the castle to see if anyone over there is alright.
    Yeah.
I rocket boost up to the air and fly to the castle forgetting about my communicator and get to the entrance to see a few familiar faces.
Oh hey, Gexka, Kexan, other person I don't really know but hey. What happened to all the numberless?
I see the look on Kexan's face and all I saw was that he was PISSED, that's rare to see, but not as rare as Gexka being pissed along with this other girl.
    What's the situation?

We get to the Lounge to see two members already there.  A girl I do not recognize, and a messy looking boy with shaggy curls and tanned skin. They're accompanied by a menacing wolf, and I'm taken aback a bit, and realize I'm not the only one seeing the boy reach for his weapon. There's a silent look we share, the confusion, and concern I see in his eyes stare at the fear, and determination in mine.  He straightens up a bit after the silent pause and speaks, "We'll get her back." The girl he's with echoes his response, and while I do not recognize her, I do see the a rage in her eyes.  I give a curt nod to the boy.

Suddenly, cracks of electricity break through the room gesturing at us to follow.  Kexan... I thought as the construct runs back waving for us.  I follow suit with the boy and girl behind them until we meet with Kexan at the Castle Entrance.  I hear the boy's information on more unconscious bodies than what has been seen already; not good. “But out of all the fucking people in this entire city, why take Cler? She’s the nicest person and I don’t think anyone had—or has any reason to hate her.”

"Idiot, of course there's no reason to hate her," I interject, "You don't take a hostage that people hate, you take the one that gets along with everybody, that is kind to a fault, that is the most loving, the most innocent--" I sigh and clench the bridge of my nose in frustration. "--because that's where it will hurt most."  I run a hand through my hair pushing it back to calm myself down to think for a moment.  "There are only two possible reasons I could think of as to why Cler would be taken."  I turn on my goggles to start a search.  I scroll through a personal database I made of current and past organization members I know, or have seen around the castle. "It could quite possibly be that they're using her as bait for some sort of trap they have in store for us, but--" I find the document I have on Clerxha and project a hologram through the goggles, "Clerxha's magical abilities to control Metal, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth could be of use to whoever has her.  Her immunity to all poisons, toxins, and viruses would allow for any chemical tests to be conducted on her without much damage to her body, though I'm sure they don't care." I scroll through more of her abilities "And as an assassin she would know the in's and out's of the Dark City, everybody that comes and goes, maybe even how to even hack into our commuicators; She's a walking encyclopedia!" I look at the hologram pensively, "Essentially, if my predictions are correct, Cler might just be the perfect kind of vessel for some kind of biological weapon against us. I mean this dude wants us to hurt.  Why else would he go through the trouble of this whole run around, and why are we still awake and everyone else is asleep?"  I look to the girl with the wolf and though about what she said. "The girl might be right on this being someone we know Kex." I scroll through the database  "Rexus is the only KNOWN Organization Member that has been banished," A hologram of the burned member shows up in the middle of the entrance for a moment.  I sigh and turn off my goggles as I stand back up walking up a little closer to Kexan to look at him, "But knowing you, there's probably a bunch of people that WE don't know about that would have just as much of a vendetta against you to do this to all of us.  I mean he did single you out in his little rant, so you definitely must know him." I pace a bit angrily away from Kexan feeling like I want to scream at him as to vent, but I restrain myself and speak, "The high school couple over here is right. We only have a limited amount of time so we need a plan, fast."

With everyone I was able to find in the castle assembled at the entrance, I had an open ear to their findings.

XXV had the same thoughts as I.
    XLVII delved into mutual questions.
IX put us in a way better position than we were without him now that we have a bruiser in the group.
XXII also delved deep into mutual questions.
Together we had ourselves a scout, influencer, bruiser, ranged support, and a high profile target.

There was no time to complain about the situation.
We had to make do with what we had.

    "Listen carefully."
"Everyone is aware of the situation and our destination by now so there isn't much to explain."
    "We're moving out immediately."
"If anyone is out there, they'll receive XXV's transmission and will rendezvous with us there."
"We'll work out a proper stratagem on approach once we've a better understanding of the location."

I take my weapons in hand and motion across the bridge.

    "We'll leave on foot."
"I'll not risk an easy ambush on arrival via corridor."
"Though this is already undoubtedly a trap we're heading into."

"IX, take the rear and protect us from any surprise attacks."
    "I will take the front."
"XXII and XLVII will support us from the center of the formation."
"XXV, I'll need you to remain stealthy and scout ahead for any traps or ambushes."

I start to make my way across the bridge down into The Dark City.

I hang back from the rest of the discussion. Having said my piece, I cross my arms and glare out over the city, in the direction of the cathedral. Rixup arrives, looking confused. I don’t know how it’s possible anyone missed the video on their communicators, but I’m not surprised flame-brain has no idea what’s going on. I walk over to him and bring him up to speed by whispering a brief summary in his ear. “Almost everyone in the city comatose and Clerxha kidnapped. Most likely by the same person. We’re attacking the cathedral at 8:30. Give them hell.” While I’m not exactly in a state to feel happy, I do feel a certain satisfaction in the addition of an extra-strength, fiery fist to shove up the bastard’s ass, or anyone else’s that gets in our way.
I’m still keeping an ear and half my attention on the conversation; assessing the information and adding my own, looking for connections and eventually conclusions. I’m especially interested in what the girl with the large weapon strapped to her back has to say with her own speculations. Done with Rixup, I get my thoughts in order. ‘Of course they took Clerxha. It would obviously do the most psychological damage to the widest audience possible; both hurting and crippling us in one blow. I can see it’s working from the expressions on the faces of the nobodies around me. And that’s what’s making me really angry; not just that they took and hurt Clerxha, but that they knew it would have this effect on us. Torturing others to torture others.’
I try to steer my mind away from the emotional and back toward the logical. ‘At the moment, Clerxha is definitely being used as bait. The other stuff the girl mentions only makes sense in the long run, which is clearly not what our enemy is aiming at. And it’d be completely redundant anyway, since 99% of the city is already completely out of commission. The enemy has already physically screwed us, now they want to do the same emotionally. They’ve revealed some sort of connection to Kexan and are now leading us on; toying with us. To me, it all adds up to a triple-jointed conclusion. They want to crush us on all levels. They want us to know it was them. They want revenge.’ My blood begins to boil.
I can hear a roar building in my ears, and I’m grateful for the distraction when Kexan tells me to scout ahead for the group. I immediately turn intangible and run off to phase though the wall of the nearest building. Turns out, when in a city where you’re one out of five people conscious, there’s not a lot to scout for. That doesn’t stop me from being vigilant. I travel a few blocks ahead of our party, staying intangible and within solid objects, peering through walls and poking my head out when necessary. I check back with the group every few minutes, updating them and making sure they’re on the fastest track. Since the others can’t move in a straight line from point A to point B, it takes us some time reach our destination.
I stop the party two blocks from the cathedral, so I can go ahead and scout. I return in five minutes, by which time it’s almost 8:30, and quickly give my report. “The inside of the cathedral seems empty. There are 3 men standing guard in the courtyard out front. Well, two of them are standing. The youngest looking one is lounging on the fountain. He’s blond with spiky a spiky mullet. He’s playing some kind of guitar. There’s another guy standing on the opposite side of the fountain from him. He’s taller, also blond, but his falls down his back. The third guy is in the shadows of the entrance to the cathedral, kind of hard to see. He’s big and bulky, definitely looks strong. From what I could see, he has spiky red hair. The first guy seems lazy, but the second seems pretty alert, and I doubt we could sneak up on the third. And maybe the most interesting bit of information; they’re all wearing Organization coats.”

Nixena takes a deep breath, focusing more on what’s going on than her own whirling emotions. Still, the purple-haired woman has a point; her sister makes an excellent hostage for whoever is behind this. Ori seems distrustful of the recent arrivals, baring fangs and growling at the redheaded brawler. Nix pats her wolf on the head, and the growl subsides. Removing her staff from its magnetized holder on her back, she leans against it while learning new information floods her mind.

Damn. They’ve got us good. By using sis as a hostage, they’re making sure that we don’t rush in with heavy-hitters in the front. Honestly, who the hell holds a big enough grudge to goad us on this much? Either they’ve also got a personal vendetta against her too, or they’re just sadistic and want to see us emotional and in pain. She grits her teeth, shifting her weight between the balls of her feet as she listens to the leader’s plan. It’s probably a trap, but we know we’re walking to a given location where there will undoubtedly be enemies.

“Ori,” the manipulator orders, her voice a different tone than her regular voice, “Give a bark if you smell strangers on our way.” She walks in silence, stretching as best as she can while walking, because going into a battle with cold muscles is just asking for hurting herself. The walk also gives her time to cool her head and analyze the situation. She doesn't want to appear cold, but distancing her emotions will only help her in the upcoming fight.

About halfway to their destination, she turns to the other woman. “When we get close, I can make a platform for you so you’ve got a clear shot… assuming we’ll end up fighting outside the Cathedral.” Her brow furrows as she remembers the area surrounding their destination. “Although…there’s no reason why you wouldn’t have a clear shot from surrounding buildings.”

When Gexka moves off to scout ahead the final time, the eerie emptiness that comes with the lack of conscious people makes her shift nervously, stretching her legs and pacing in a small area. The report he gives makes a single question come to mind: “And you’re sure that none of them are people from the organization?” She pauses before turning to the leader. “Is there a way that other people would try to copy us or want to replace what we’re doing?”

She waits to see what the plan is going forward, listening intently and readying her weapons as the time ticks down to the scheduled attack. Realizing that the message was sent out to everyone, Nix silently hopes that the enemy no longer has access to Clerxha’s communicator, so that these people will be unaware of the time and the plan to attack. Right before they’re about to head out, she remembers the handful of potions she’s picked up and hands one to each of them. “She made these for me for if I got too injured to heal myself or teammates. I figure it’s better to split them now, when we’re going to save her.” There are still three left in her bag, and she hopes that no one will need to use them at all. “I think she’d also want us to kick their asses.”

Oh, this is a serious thing. Poor Clerxha...
Now I understood about what was happening and it seems to be a very serious thing.
A hostage situation... Better give it my all to the bastards that are doing this...
I look over to the girl with the dog. She seemed to care about Clerxha a lot.
Don't worry, Imma deck 'em where it hurts!
Hearing Kexan's orders about me being in the back to watch for flanks, I give him a slight nod.
It would be nice if you called your brother by his own name, thanks.
We begin to head out with Gexka giving us information about our targets. I walk to the back looking behind the crowd and begin to think about our current situation with my halo.
So it isn't just one guy. Even though there seems to be three of them, we should be on our best guard.
I'll keep a lookout behind, you just look up ahead.
Got it. So We've got the leader, the thief, the beat-em-upper, and other 2 that I'm unsure about. If it's a 3v3 while the other are support to back the three up, or they can head in the cathedral and find Clerxha.
That isn't a good idea, what if there's more in hiding? You guys should stick together and watch for each other.
    Sounds like a plan.
Theta and I look all around the party for any suspicious characters while we head to our destination.

I give a curt nod to Kexan, and turn back to Cogsy.  "Babe, I need you to put those potions in Wolf Girl's bag, and just keep an eye on us through the screen in the room." I nuzzle him close, sharing some butterfly kisses, and give him a light tap towards Nix, and then see him fly off to the castle.  Sighing to myself, I turn around to walk next to Nix.  I listen to her suggestion on strats, and in prep I turn on Baby Girl to activate the cyborg hand. "Got it."  Once Gexka reported back, I tensed up a bit.  People in Organization cloaks? "Something tells me a couple of 'Wannabes' couldn't set this shit up." I programmed my sharp shooter sniper on Baby Girl, and loaded ammo.  "If we're making a move, I can take a shot.  Just let me know."

Once we arrived, XXV gave his report and everyone seemed on high alert and ready to move.
From the information given to me, there are 3 cloaked men awaiting our arrival.
Assuming they are not allies, XXV mentioned the cathedral seeming empty.
This means we'll most likely need to extract information from these men.
I look back at everyone getting themselves prepared.

"We'll need these men alive, for now. Aim to incapacitate, not kill."

I remove my hood and unsheathe my gunblades.

"I'll create a large distraction. Take advantage of it. This won't be a quiet encounter."

Several constructs form around me and split up to surround the perimeter of the courtyard with me staying at a distance.
Once they are all in position. I turn slightly towards the party and wait until they all looked prepared.
I give a nod as every construct launched into the air and onto the perimeter wall with both gunblades armed and aimed at both figures near the fountain, the 3rd was too difficult to see from the constructs' positions.

Now I can see every angle of the fountain.
I have 1 construct begin to visibly charge their gunblades with energy for a concentrated attack while another begins to speak monotonously; alternating between taunting and charging at random.

    Construct 5: "State your business..."
    Construct 8: *charges*
    Construct 6: "...and names, now."
    Construct 11: *charges*
Construct 2: "We are not here for games."
    Construct 13: *charges*
Construct 18: "Cooperate, or you will be fired upon."
    Construct 27: *charges*
Construct 3: "Until you are dust."
    Construct 10: *charges*
    Etc.

How they'll react to this intimidation tactic will determine my next move and also give us a better idea of what we're up against with minimal sacrifice.

A dark corridor opens in front of the round room with Aixus stepping out of it.

The round room? Kexan isn't even here. Shouldn't you be going ballistic right now over the sight of Clerxha being captured and possibly severely injured?

Ignoring the voice inside, Aixus just walks past the round room towards the stairs to the roof.

We're going to the roof? I guess he might be there...

Aixus continues walking, taking a right before reaching the stairs to the roof, instead entering a room with a big console inside of it.

Okay on the real tho, can you tell me what it is you're doing over here? I'm sure the readers are dying to know.

Aixus walks up to the console and starts typing on it. "I'm not going to lose my head in a situation like this. Don't underestimate Clerxha, she can take care of herself. She's also still alive right now which means that whoever is behind this needs her alive for now. Don't mistake my motives. There will be retribution for what's happening."

Okay, but that still doesn't explain what you're doing here right now.

"There are intruders in the city. But why didn't the security system activate?"

Well they captured Celrxha, so maybe they were able to get Kane too. Isn't all this security attached to him?"

"Anything that Kane makes is powered by him. The only way to knock down the security system is to take out Kane."

So if the security system is offline now, wouldn't that mean that Kane is somehow incapacitated?

"That's what I thought at first too, but like I said before, everything Kane makes is powered by him. Literally like 80% of the things we use are powered by him. This includes our communicators."

So that means that since that guy sent us the video message on our communicators from Clerxha's communicator, then Kane should be fine! But wait... Then why didn't the security system let us know that there were intruders?[/colors]

"Well that part is up for debate, but my guess is that it has something to do with Maxech specifically."

    Oh yeah? How so?

"Well everything is powered by Kane, yes, but the head of the security system is Maxech. Anytime someone enters the world, Maxech knows about it. He then sends that information to Kane and he handles it accordingly. Not only that, but Maxech should have already activated the security system based on whats happened so far. The question is: Why didn't he?"

Got any ideas as to the answer?

"Well I have a couple of theories, buuuut...."
A window pops up on the screen detailing Maxech's current status. "Just as I expected. He's disabled."

    Why would he be disabled?

"Being something that Kane created, he's bound to the same rule as everything else he's created."

I see. So the only way that Maxech would be out of commission would be for Kane to be incapacitated as well. But if he isn't...

"Then that means that Kane disabled Maxech himself. The only reason I can think of for him doing that is that he's currently working on Maxech..."

Which would also explain why Kane would be oblivious to the situation we're in right now. He's in his lab! Is there any way to get in contact with him?

"No. His lab has the tightest security in the city and if he didn't get the video message from earlier, then he's probably been too distracted to notice. Not only that, but once Maxech comes back online, he'll notify Kane of what's happening."

So what's our next move now that we've bombarded the readers with all this exposition on how the security system works?

"Luckily I can actually activate the security system from this console. Better late than never, ya know?"

    Cool, so problem solved, right?

"Not necessarily. Without Maxech, we won't be able to track the whereabouts of the intruders. However, what I can do is put everything on high alert and send some drones to the cathedral." Aixus activates the security system and puts it on high alert, activating all the turrets and all the drones to patrol the city in search of the intruders. An overwhelming amount of drones(69) Fly to the cathedral at high speeds, arriving in mere seconds. The drones surround the airspace around the cathedral as well the ground and start doing the same thing that Kexan's Constructs are doing. "There. Everything is set."

Hey. Did you notice how we finished each other's sentences for a bit there? WE WERE SO CUTE!

"You've ruined it. You've ruined it and I'm leaving." Aixus says, turning around and opening a dark corridor.

    BUT WE WERE SO CUTE!

"Shut up!" Aixus yells at the portal closes behind him.

The appearance of the constructs and drones elicits three different responses from the nobodies in the courtyard. The young man sits up, eyes wide, his grip on his instrument visibly tightening. The tall man raises a hand to rub chin and turns in a slow circle, taking it all in with a look of obvious fascination. The ginger in the shadows doesn’t react visibly, calmly taking in the scene as if it was what he was expecting. The large man doesn’t shout, but speaks loud enough for everyone to hear. “Demyx, Vexen, if you would.”
The young man, Demyx, gives a curt nod, “Yeah, sure.” He strums his sitar and dozens of jets of water erupt from the fountain he’s sitting on, each taking on the form of their creator. Not even hitting the ground, the water clones blast into the electric constructs; three or four for each construct. The clones crash into the constructs and stick around long enough to beat, bludgeon, and thrash them out of existence, before collapsing into puddles on the ground.
At the same time, on the opposite side of the fountain, the tall man, Vexen, lets out a disappointed sigh, “I did so want to study them.” Despite his complaint, the gaunt nobody raises a hand above his head and begins condensing vapors of freezing temperatures. Three blindingly white disks, in the shapes of whirling snowflakes, form above the nobody’s hand, each five feet across, rotating around each other. With a flick of his fingers, Vexen sends the disks shooting out and up, each in a different direction, but all aimed at the drones. The disks circle the perimeter of drones, shredding through any they come in contact, though simply coming into the proximity of one freezes the drone, sending it spiraling out of the air. Once all the drones are dealt with, the disks spiral back in to Vexen. They merge into one big disk, which Vexen then grabs out of the air. Ice shatters and the tall nobody is suddenly holding a large, spiky shield.
The ginger nobody finally steps out of the shadows, revealing his piercing blue eyes. “Our business?” On the other side of the fountain, a spike of stone rises from the ground. The large man begins slowly walking around the fountain toward it. “We are simply exterminating some pests we found upon returning home.” He reaches the spike, which stands as tall as him, and punches his hand into it as easily as if it were paper. The rock crumbles around his arm, and the nobody is left holding a meter-long weapon that looks like the combination of an axe and a sword. With a sudden ferocity that belies his previous demeanor, the nobody bellows, “I, Lexaeus, shall reclaim what is ours!” The large nobody lifts his weapon over his head and then slams it into the ground. Seismic tremors radiate out from the point of impact. They expand through the courtyard, the cathedral, and beyond into the city. The ground trembles and shakes, with cracks spider webbing though it, some growing large enough to swallow a person. Bricks, stones, and other masonry breaks off of the cathedral and other buildings to smash into the ground. As the final rumbles die away, Lexaeus stands, hefting the axe sword onto one shoulder.

Even as I’m relaying my information I’m fiddling with my communicator. When I’m done, I pull a wireless earbud out of a coat pocket and stick it one ear. When Kexan finishes speaking, I immediately say, “Stay in contact. Use secure channel 8. Password is ‘object removal specialist’.”
I snatch a potion bottle from Nixena and sprint away. I stay out of sight and within moments I’m behind our enemy on one of the slanted stone projections of the cathedral. I miss the arrival of the Kexan’s constructs and what I assume are Kane’s drones, but I do hear the ginger name his two companions and the destruction that follows. I don’t know how much my teammates can see, so I communicate the details in a whisper as they occur, hoping the comm can pick it up.
“The big ginger seems to be in charge. The two blonds are Demyx and Vexen; not sure which is which. Shit, they just took out all of Kexan’s constructs and the drones. The younger one seems to have some control over water; he made a bunch of clones out of the stuff. The tall one appears to have control over cold or ice. He just froze over half the drones out of the air. My plants won’t do well against him. He just summoned a shield. The big guy is moving. I think he can manipulate earth or stone. Says they’re returning home? He’s strong; just punched through solid rock. Think I’ll leave him to the heavy hitters. Woah, big weapon. Some sort of axe/sword. Says his name is Lexaeus. Incom-!”
My warning is cut off as the earthquake hits the cathedral and I almost bite my tongue off. The initial shaking almost throws me from my perch, but even as I regain my balance, the stonework crumbles away beneath me. I fall along with a bunch of other masonry and land with a clatter at the base of the cathedral, behind the enemy nobodies. I manage to tuck and roll, only getting a bit battered and bruised, and the enemy hasn’t noticed me amid all the other noise created by the mini-quake. As a stand up, I see my fall and roll has placed me closest to the younger blond guy. “Guess I’m going after the water boy.”
I focus on the plant life in the area; grass, weeds, lots of ivy on the walls, a few shrubs, and a single stunted tree in one corner. I have most of the grass and weeds wrap into long vines and send those slithering towards the water boy as I dash at him. The vines climb his body, wrapping tightly around his legs and holding his arms in place. I’ve incapacitated the guy, but disoriented from my fall, I’m not certain what to do next. So I do what comes naturally; I take his stuff. I dash up behind the man and rip the weird guitar out of his hands. Then, acting on my negative emotions, I do the next thing that comes naturally. I take this guy’s instrument and I bash him over the head with it full force. “Probably not my best idea, but incredibly satisfying.”

Nixena pulls a single-ear headset out of her bag, connecting it to the mentioned channel. She clicks her tongue as an instruction for Ori to follow, and gives a quick, two-fingered salute towards the others before sneaking off into the shadowy entrance. She remembers a shorter section of the courtyard wall and smiles, a plan formulating in her mind. The two-block run is easy, and she categorizes the traits as she nears her entry-point. Inhaling deeply, she flexes her free hand, creating a slope of stone that leads up to the wall of the courtyard.

Earth manipulator huh? An ideal enemy, she thinks, Just kidding, I'm no brawler. Guess I'll go for-- The earth beneath her feet begins to tremble, the seismic activity decreasing the stability of her makeshift ramp, and she picks up speed, holding her staff in both hands as she jumps, vaulting over the side of the wall and somersaulting in the air. She makes a successful landing, forcing herself to take a step back and immediately launch an attack at the tall figure before her.

Somehow, the tall blonde hasn't noticed Nixena's appearance--too distracted with the crumbling scenery. Guess this is the ice-user? She muses before she begins to loosen the already-fissured earth beneath the man, an attempt to create a patch of quicksand beneath his feet as a means of entrapment. Despite knowing that it will slow the formation of aerated quicksand, she takes the rubble that surrounds her and shoots it at him from all directions, her fury charged in every single blow that she makes. Ori weaves among the rocks, approaching from his blind spot and launching forward to bite into the man's shoulder.

Nixena follows up with a quick whistle--two low-pitched notes followed by a lower one--to recall the white wolf to her side. "You're fucking lucky. We need you alive," Nixena says with a scowl, although it transforms into a cold and emotionless expression. "For now, at least." The wolf growls menacingly, but it's not enough to make Nixena smile. Not yet.

She trusts Ori to watch her back as she moves closer. Her voice dips lower, this time oozing with her vocal manipulation, "Tell me your plans." She inhales sharply before adding, "Where is your prisoner?"
